Guest Choreographer
Kendia Bennett, a native of Niagara Falls, New York, received his early training from Miss Beverly Fletcher before being accepted to the Alabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA) in Birmingham, Alabama. While attending ASFA, Kendia studied under David Keener, Rafael Delgado, Mimi Twyman, Martha Faesi and Jamie Kilgore. Kendia has attended Virginia School of the Arts, Nashville Ballet, and Alabama Ballet summer intensive programs. Kendia participated in Alabama Ballet’s Spring 2012 Showcase in which he choreographed “Beauty in Thanatos,”choreographing many more pieces that have been performed by students of SUNY Purchase College such as “Off Balance,” and “A Taste for Things to Come.” He was thrilled to accept the position of apprentice with Alabama Ballet from 2011-2013. After studying dance at SUNY Purchase College for his BFA (2018). Having performed works by George Balanchine (pas de deux in “Four Temperaments”; “Nutcracker”), Taryn Russel, Norbert De La Cruz, and many more, Kendia is excited to be back in Birmingham to dance and give back to his community. After teaching at Alabama Dance Academy, under the direction of Pamela Merkel, Kendia is currently teaching at Ballet Squared in Gadsden, Alabama, and now, joining the Alabama Ballet this year for the first show of the season!
