John is originally from Corpus Christi, Texas, where he began his dance training at the age of six with the Corpus Christi Ballet. He continued his ballet studies with Texas Ballet Theater School, Ballet Center of Fort Worth and the Dallas Metropolitan Ballet. John earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas where he danced the role of the Waltz Man in George Balanchine’s Serenade at the opening of the world renowned Winspear Opera House. Additionally, John has trained on scholarship with the San Francisco Ballet School, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre. After graduating from SMU, John joined the Second Company of Cincinnati Ballet and later danced with Dayton Ballet. He joined Alabama Ballet in 2015 and has had the pleasure of performing Chinese Tea, Lead Spanish and Herr Drosselmeir in George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker®, the Peasant Pas de Deux in Giselle, Baron Von Rothbart in Swan Lake, and in Agnes de Mille’s Fall River Legend. In addition to dancing, John shares his passion for dance as a ballet instructor to students in the Birmingham area and in his home state of Texas. John is excited for his fourth season with Alabama Ballet.
